Michel Emile Chammas is the President of the American Friends of Notre Dame University-Louaize (AFNDU) and a dedicated leader in the Lebanese community of Houston, Texas. Born in Chekka, Lebanon, Michel has lived in Houston since 1984.
Michel holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo, earned in May 1984. He is the President and CEO of Chammas Cutters, Inc., a global company specializing in the design and manufacture of downhole tools for the oil and gas industry.
He has been married to Mirna Nehme for thirty-seven years, and together they have three children—Mark, Mathew, and Maria—and are blessed with a two-year-old granddaughter, Ava.
Michel’s commitment to the Lebanese community in Houston is well-recognized. He served four terms as President of the American Lebanese Cultural Center in Houston and continues to serve on the Board of Trustees. This organization hosts annual Lebanese festivals that are among the largest in North America, celebrating Lebanese heritage and culture. Additionally, Michel is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Task Force on Lebanon (ATFL), an esteemed organization focused on fostering strong ties between Lebanon and the United States.
Michel’s work with AFNDU and other organizations highlights his dedication to supporting the Lebanese diaspora and promoting cross-cultural understanding and connection.
