JOIN AFNDU IN MAKING A DIFFERENCE

The American Friends of NDU (AFNDU) is a non-profit organization dedicated to building a cultural link between the USA and Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU) in Lebanon. Established in 2001 and reactivated in 2014, AFNDU focuses on fostering relationships and providing financial assistance through scholarships and educational programs. As a U.S.-registered non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization, AFNDU is committed to supporting the educational activities at NDU.

OUR HISTORY

In the fall of 2001, Dr. Ameen A. Rihani visited the United States with the goal of establishing The American Friends of Notre Dame University (AFNDU). The initial step took place in Washington, D.C., where Dr. Rihani convened a group of about twenty interested individuals to discuss three key documents he had prepared: the characteristics of NDU, the objectives for AFNDU, and the proposed plan of action.

Following several meetings, the confirmed members elected the first Executive Committee, which immediately began reviewing the objectives and plan of action. Parallel efforts were made in Detroit, Michigan, and a similar meeting occurred later in New Britain, Connecticut. The Washington, D.C. chapter worked to finalize AFNDU as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, securing official recognition from the state of Maryland and the federal government. The legal documents were issued on July 3, 2003, and January 2016.
